SENDAI, MIYAGI
Venue for DGCA 60
Miyagi is home to the contrasting yet complementary features that constitute a quintessential part of the Japanese experience: ancient versus modern, mountains and sea, the ever-changing beauty of the seasons, and more. A few of the sights here are internationally famous, but many more are virtually unknown. Located well away from Japan's mainstream tourist beat, Miyagi offers authentic "local Japan" appeal.
With population of one million - the largest in the north region in Japan - Sendai is bustling with business and leisure. More than just a busy metropolis in this sprawling "City of Trees" you can also go hiking, skiing, and camping. The city's outskirts are even home to two hot spring areas with long histories. Sendai Airport, Sendai Port Ferry Terminal, and the major bus and train hub Sendai Station make Sendai a prime base from which to explore northern Japan.
Welcome to the 60th DGCA Conference
Message from Host Country
The JCAB will proudly host the 60th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation of the Asia and Pacific Region in Sendai, Miyagi, Japan, from 28 July to 1 August, 2025.
We are very pleased to invite you to Sendai, the largest city in the Tohoku region, known as the “City of Trees”, where rich nature and urban life harmoniously coexist.
The theme topic of this Conference is
“The sustainable skies of the Asia-Pacific region: towards increased economic prosperity and social well-being by air transportation of people and goods in the region.”
Air transport in the Asia-Pacific region is growing rapidly, but there are many challenges that must be addressed, including environmental protection, technological innovation, and workforce development.
Let us bring together our wisdom and experience to foster lively discussions for the future economic and social development of the region.
The JCAB team is committed to providing warm hospitality to ensure that your stay in Japan is both meaningful and comfortable.
NAKAYAMA Rieko
Director-General for International Aviation, Civil Aviation Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan
Greetings from Montreal.
I am ONUMA Toshiyuki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Delegation of Japan to the ICAO.
I am truly honored to welcome you all to my hometown, Sendai, Miyagi.
Speaking of Japan, many of you may have visited Tokyo, Osaka, or Kyoto, but I imagine that few have visited Sendai, Miyagi.
I hope you take this opportunity to fully enjoy the cityscape, culture and cuisine of Sendai, Miyagi.
Sendai, Miyagi is also home to Sendai Airport, the first in Japan to implement airport concession for a sustainable airport management, and the Aeronautical Safety College, which trains air navigation officers as part of the NGAP (Next Generation of Aviation Professionals) initiative, as well as the Civil Aviation College, where the government trains commercial pilots on the premise that they will become airline pilots. It should also be noted all of these facilities were heavily damaged by the huge earthquake and accompanied Tsunami 14 years ago, however, incredibly recovered as the manifestation of the resilience of civil aviation.
It is exactly the right place for the topic of this Conference.
JCAB has also arranged various tours for this event, and I hope you will join us.
I will also be coming from Montreal, and I am looking forward to meeting you all in Sendai, Miyagi.
ONUMA Toshiyuki
